Is Rileigh's only hope for salvation to team up with her sworn enemy?
Rileigh Martin just wants to do normal teenage things, like go on romantic dates with Kim, her boyfriend and past life soul mate. Although that seems impossible when she's the reincarnation of Senshi, a fifteenth century samurai warrior. After a ninja ambush leaves her unable to control her ki powers, Rileigh vows to get them under control before her friends lose more than their eyebrows. But when Kim leaves her for his past life betrothed and the other samurai stop talking to her, Rileigh realizes she doesn't have any friends left to worry about.
As the ninja attacks increase, Rileigh learns that the reincarnated kunoichi, a powerful female ninja, wants to kill her in order to reclaim her destructive powers. Alone and with increasingly unstable powers, Rileigh's only offer of help comes from Whitley, her sworn past life enemy. Rileigh knows she doesn't stand a chance against the kunoichi by herself, but Whitley's sudden allegiance might be hiding a much deadlier agenda.

The Network only wants to help. ” “Yeah? Well, you guys are doing a great job. Did you know that I just went on a death ride in a hijacked elevator? ” His jaw fell and it took him several tries before he was able to speak. “What? ” His fingers fumbled inside his shirt pocket for his phone. “This needs to be reported! ” “Forget it. ” I held a hand up to stop him. “Kim and I will take care of it. You can help by leaving me alone. ” “Rileigh, I … ” he looked back and forth between me and his phone.

Please. The only reason I was on the couch is because I fell asleep waiting for Kim who, thanks to the ever-annoying Network, had to stand me up for some dumb mission when there’s an actual crisis going on right here. ” “A mission? ” Dr. Wendell put down his coffee, all traces of amusement gone from his face. “Kim told you he had an assignment? ” “Well, he didn’t get a chance to. I fell asleep, remember? Jeez, I thought doctors were supposed to be smart. ” I dumped the batting in the trash can and brushed my hands along my sweatpants.

She glared at me, her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. “That is just a taste of what I can do. ” She walked to the center of the barn and extended her hand. “Now give me my kanzashi. ” Son of hibachi. If I gave her Chiyo’s kanzashi, how long would I have until she realized I’d given her the wrong one? What I needed was a plan. And, since I didn’t have one, I’d have to stall until I did. “He obviously means nothing to you. ” I pointed the tip of my blade at Kim. “So let him go. Then you and I will discuss the kanzashi.

Q hovered above my shoulder. “Do you really think it’s Whitley? ” I shrugged. “I guess we’re about to find out. ” At the top of the hill, he stopped in front of the giant statue of St. Louis atop his horse that overlooked the lake, and glanced in our direction. It was hard to make out who it was from our hiding spot. Despite having long blond hair that hung in such a way it covered half of his face, I knew it was Whitley. The chills that pulled at the hairs along my neck were all the proof I needed.

I reared back and struck again, this time ripping into the wires as I brought my heel back down. The elevator shuddered, the lights flickering on once before going back out. My plan had failed. I was going to die. And so I closed my eyes and waited for the crash that would be the end of me. Seconds passed. But the crash never came. Instead, the floor jerked, bringing me to my knees. The shriek of the brakes grinding against the cables squealed so loudly I wondered if the sound might pierce right through my skull.
